What is a Non Domestic Refurbishment Assessment?
Similar to other BREEAM schemes a Non Domestic Refurbishment also assesses the environmental performance of a building. And as the name suggests this scheme would be applicable to non-domestic properties that are undergoing a refurbishment.
Since refurbishment projects don’t have as much flexibility as a new build project, this scheme is broken down into 4 parts, namely: Fabric & Structure, Core Services, Local Services, and Interior Design. Your project would only be assessed under the parts that fall under the refurbishment works.
Benefits of a BREEAM Assessment
Although BREEAM assessments are not mandatory but their benefits might be much greater than people believe. First and foremost, it has a large positive effect on the environment by making the construction process and ongoing functioning of the building/site more energy efficient.
Moreover, it gives clients and future buyers more confidence in the value of a BREEAM rated building, as they are regarded much higher than a normal building. BREEAM targets can also be a part of planning conditions from the local government, or form part of the employee’s requirements (ER’s).
