Overheating Assessment

30 Dwellings
A Part O overheating assessment was carried out utilising the TM59 dynamic modelling approach for the residential development of 30 dwellings in Earnley, Chichester. The analysis was conducted to ensure that there was no risk of overheating and that residents’ thermal comfort would not be affected. Plots associated with each house type were selected using sampling techniques and were chosen based on specific criteria such as single aspect, orientation, and floor elevation. These factors enhance the potential for solar gains. Moreover, the selection process also considered security and privacy concerns, resulting in a reduction in the free aperture area and / or opening times.
The strategy to mitigate overheating was carefully balanced with a high-performance fabric, triple glazing windows, adequate natural ventilation, maintaining architectural design proposal, and the visual appearance of the dwellings. The chosen approach focussed on enhancing natural ventilation, introducing cross ventilation and reducing solar emission by utilising solar control glazing.
